Introduction
It's very simple:
- Check the frequency of lubrication according to the use of the vehicle;
- Use the right fat;
- Cleanliness is *critical*;
- shine;
- Solve problems

SPL Series:
-
Urban: 40,000 km or 6 months.
-
Road: 40,000 km or 6 months.
-
Agricultural and Construction: 20,000 km or 3 months.
-
Industrial: 500 hours under normal use or 250 hours under severe use.
-
If the gimbal is immersed in water or mud (when facing floods, crossing streams, working in rice fields, among other similar situations), re-lubricate.
-
-
-
The biggest cause of problems in crossheads and sliding joints is the application of wrong greases.
-
Grease needs to unite three properties:
-
1 - Be based on lithium soap.
-
2 - Contain additives for extreme pressure (EP).
-
3 - Have the NLGI 2 degree of consistency.
-
Do not try to save money by using another type of grease. The damage with the cardan will be much greater.
-
-
-
Before starting lubrication, you must:
-
1 - Clean and assess the state of conservation of the grease fittings of each crosspiece.
-
2 - Check that the grease gun has no remains of old grease or any other type of grease.
-
3 - In pneumatic systems, check that the air is not contaminated with water or oil.
-
-
-
With everything in order, lubricating a Spicer SPL250-1XS pan is very easy. But one thing is essential: apply new grease until the old grease is completely removed from the four crosshead covers. Watch the video below for a detailed step-by-step guide.
-
Then, continue applying a little more, until the new grease comes out continuously from the covers, without gaps or air bubbles.
-
If all goes well, clean the crosshead and the job is ready.
-
-
-
If any of the crosshead covers do not purge the old grease, you need to troubleshoot the problem:
-
Try moving the cardan from one side to the other, activating the grease gun, as shown in the illustration.
-
If it is the fork shaft that does not bleed, tap the side of the fork with a rubber mallet to relieve the clamping pressure on the pawl and try to lubricate it.
-
Rotate the gimbal 180 degrees and repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
-
If purging still does not occur in any of the crosshead covers, loosen the screws and remove the tab from the side of the cardan fork and lubricate until purging is obtained in all four covers. In this operation, the clamps, screws and tabs must always be replaced.
-
Check that the internal lubrication channels of the part are not clogged.
-
Reassemble the crosspiece and, using a torque wrench, tighten the tabs to a torque of 40 Nm.
-
Repeat the lubrication procedure. If the cover still does not purge, the crosshead must be replaced.
