Introduction

Replacing a tripod requires some care and specific tools.

  1. 
With the vehicle resting on the ground, loosen the axle shaft nut and wheel bolts; With the vehicle suspended, remove the wheel;

Loosen the pivot and tie rod end nuts; Using an extractor, remove the pivot and tie rod end;

Using a lever, force the tray down to disengage the pivot;
    • With the vehicle resting on the ground, loosen the axle shaft nut and wheel bolts; With the vehicle suspended, remove the wheel;

    • Loosen the pivot and tie rod end nuts; Using an extractor, remove the pivot and tie rod end;

    • Using a lever, force the tray down to disengage the pivot;

    • Pull the axle sleeve to release the Fixed Joint, if necessary, use a polyurethane hammer;

    • Remove the Tulip Hood clamps and remove the half shaft.

Using ring pliers, remove the lock and tripod;
    • Using ring pliers, remove the lock and tripod;

    • Clean the half shaft to avoid grease contamination.

  3. 
Manually assemble the Hood;

Position the Tripod spline on the Half-shaft spline. The flat face should be facing the end of the shaft;

Place the lock;
    • Manually assemble the Hood;

    • Position the Tripod spline on the Half-shaft spline. The flat face should be facing the end of the shaft;

    • Place the lock;

    • Mount the boot on the bearing. Use the bridge type pliers to tighten.

  4. 
Fit the Tripod into the Tulip.;

Use the bridge pliers to tighten the Tulip clamp;

Place the end of the Fixed Joint into the Hub. Fit the axle sleeve to the pivot. Install the steering terminal;
    • Fit the Tripod into the Tulip.;

    • Use the bridge pliers to tighten the Tulip clamp;

    • Place the end of the Fixed Joint into the Hub. Fit the axle sleeve to the pivot. Install the steering terminal;

    • Tighten the Pivot and Tie Rod End nuts.

    • Place the axle shaft nut. Position the wheel and wheel bolts.

    • With the vehicle resting on the ground, tighten the wheel nuts. Apply 280 Nm to the half-shaft nut.

    • To prevent accidental loosening, crimp the axle nut collar into the recess in the joint.

    • Top up the transmission oil according to the vehicle manual.

    • Always wear the proper safety glasses when performing any type of maintenance. Failure to wear safety glasses could result in injury and/or partial or complete loss of vision.

    • Always be careful when working with products that have sharp edges.

Conclusion

Avoid damage and premature wear, after installing the Half-shaft, check the vehicle's geometry.
