Introduction
Replacing a CV Joint requires some care and specific tools.
-
-
With the vehicle resting on the ground, loosen the axle shaft nut and wheel bolts; With the vehicle suspended, remove the wheel;
-
Loosen the pivot and tie rod end nuts; Using an extractor, remove the pivot and tie rod end;
-
Using a lever, force the tray down to disengage the pivot;
-
Pull the axle sleeve to release the Fixed Joint, if necessary, use a polyurethane hammer;
-
Loosen the 6 fastening screws of the tulip Sliding Joint and remove the axle shaft from the vehicle.
-
-
-
Using locking pliers, open the lock ring and remove it from the shaft;
-
Remove the Slip Joint, Disc Spring and Hood;
-
Clean the half shaft to avoid grease contamination.
-
-
-
Manually assemble the Hood, the gasket, the disc spring (with the concave part, facing the outside of the joint);
-
Fit the Sliding Joint onto the axle shaft. Mount the lock ring;
-
Apply grease to the Slip Joint;
-
Place the seal and cover on the Slip Joint;
-
Position the screws to facilitate the process;
-
Secure the larger clamp with the help of special pliers; Before securing the smaller clamp, use a round-tipped wrench between the boot and the shaft to allow some air to enter. Secure the smaller clamp, positioning it in the recess of the shaft.
-
-
-
Fit the Sliding Joint onto the gearshift tulip;
-
Apply 40 Nm of torque to the 6 Sliding Joint fixing screws;
-
Place the end of the Fixed Joint on the Hub. Fit the axle sleeve onto the Pivot. Install the steering terminal;
-
Tighten the Pivot and Tie Rod End nuts.
-
Place the axle shaft nut. Position the wheel and wheel bolts.
-
Pay attention to the torque sequence of the half-shaft nut: 1st Step: 250 Nm; 2nd Step: -360º; 3rd Step: +50º; 4th Step: 60º . These are important steps, as they are the ones that adjust the bearing clearance.
-
To prevent accidental loosening, crimp the axle nut collar into the recess in the joint.
-
-
-
Under no circumstances should you attempt any repair or maintenance for which you are not trained or if you do not have the tools and equipment to perform the repair.
-
Always wear proper safety glasses when performing any type of maintenance. Failure to wear safety glasses may result in injury and/or partial or complete loss of vision.
