Introduction
Replacing a Spicer Series 10 universal joint is very simple and involves 3 activities: removing the old universal joint and analyzing the universal joint and driveshaft; installing the new universal joint, evaluating the driveshaft assembly again and finally, lubricating.
-
-
Remove the clamp fixing screws and remove the covers.
-
Remove the crosspiece
-
After disassembling the covers, check that all the rollers are properly positioned in the covers and examine the crosshead body, looking for marks or excessive wear.
-
These may be indications of other driveshaft problems. The crosspiece can be considered a type of driveshaft fuse, and abnormal or premature wear indicates other problems, such as misalignment or lack of lubrication.
-
Properly dispose of used screws, caps and rollers, which should never be reused.
-
New line.
-
-
-
Do not reuse covers, plates and screws. The Spicer Kit provides all the necessary accessories; Check that there are no impurities or oxidation on the fixing eyes of the gloves, flanges or terminals;
-
Remove the crosshead covers being careful not to misalign or remove the rollers;
-
Position the crosshead with the grease fitting facing the tube and the ends of the grease fitting facing the sides, never towards the eye;
-
Fit the cover onto the lower eyelet perpendicularly, do not use oil or grease on the eyelets, if necessary, use a polyurethane hammer to place the plates on the eyelets;
-
-
Check that the crosshead moves freely and without noise;
-
-
-
SPICER RECOMMENDS THE USE OF LITHIUM SOAP-BASED GREASE WITH EP ADDITIVES AND NLGI 2 CONSISTENCY DEGREE.
-
BEFORE REMOVING THE CARDAN, MAKE MARKS TO ENSURE ALIGNMENT.
-
-
-
Under no circumstances should you attempt any repair or maintenance for which you have not been trained or if you do not have the tools and equipment to repair it.
-
Always wear the proper safety glasses when performing any type of maintenance. Failure to wear safety glasses could result in injury and/or partial or complete loss of vision.
-
Always be careful when working with products that have sharp edges.
-
Inadequate lubrication or reuse of coupling parts or screws can cause the gimbal to fail or even separate the gimbal from the vehicle. A separate vehicle gimbal can cause an accident and even death. Don't take any chances with security.
