Introduction
It's quite simple:
- Check the frequency of lubrication according to the use of the vehicle;
- Use the right grease;
- Cleanliness is *critical*;
- shine;
- Solve problems

Series 10:
-
Urban: 10,000 km or 2 months.
-
Road: 20,000 km or 4 months.
-
Agricultural and Construction: 5,000 km or 1 month.
-
Industrial: 300 hours under normal use or 150 hours under severe use.

If the cardan shaft is immersed in water or mud (when facing floods, crossing streams, working in rice fields, among other similar situations), re-lubricate it.

The biggest cause of problems in crosspieces and sliding joints is the application of incorrect greases.
-
Grease needs to combine three properties:
-
1 - Be lithium soap based.
-
2 - Contain extreme pressure (EP) additives.
-
3 - Have NLGI consistency grade 2.
-
Don't try to save money by using another type of grease. The damage to the driveshaft will be much greater.
-
-
-
Before starting lubrication, you must:
-
1 - Clean and assess the condition of the grease fittings on each crosshead.
-
2 - Check that the grease machine does not have any remains of old grease or other type of grease.
-
3 - In pneumatic systems, check that the air is not contaminated with water or oil.
-
-
-
With everything in order, lubricating a Spicer 5-275XS platter is a breeze. But one thing to be careful about is essential: apply new grease until the old grease completely comes out of the four crosshead covers. See the video below for detailed step-by-step instructions.
-
Continue applying until the new grease comes out of the layers continuously, without gaps or air bubbles.
-
If everything goes well, clean the crosshead and the job is done.
-
-
-
If any of the covers do not purge the old grease, you need to troubleshoot the problem:
-
First, hit the cover with a polyurethane hammer and try to lubricate it.
-
If that doesn't work, loosen the fixing tabs and dismantle the crosspiece in the press.
-
Check that the part's internal lubrication channels are not clogged.
-
Reassemble the crosshead and, using a torque wrench, tighten the tabs with a torque of 40 Nm. Redo the lubrication procedure.
-
If the cover still does not purge, the only solution is to change the crosspiece.
