Series 10:

Urban: 10,000 km or 2 months.

Road: 20,000 km or 4 months.

Agricultural and Construction: 5,000 km or 1 month.

Industrial: 300 hours in normal use or 150 hours in severe use.

The biggest cause of problems in crossheads and sliding joints is the application of wrong greases.

Grease needs to unite three properties:

1 - Be based on lithium soap.

2 - Contain additives for extreme pressure (EP).

3 - Have the NLGI 2 degree of consistency.

Do not try to save money by using another type of grease. The damage with the cardan will be much greater.

Before starting lubrication, you must:

1 - Clean and assess the state of conservation of the grease fittings of each crosspiece.

2 - Check that the grease gun has no remains of old grease or any other type of grease.

3 - In pneumatic systems, check that the air is not contaminated with water or oil.

With everything in order, lubricating a Spicer 5-12276XS pan is very easy. But one thing is essential: apply new grease until the old grease is completely removed from the four crosshead covers. Watch the video below for a detailed step-by-step guide.

Continue applying until new grease comes out of the caps continuously, without gaps or air bubbles.

If all goes well, clean the crosshead and the job is ready.

If any of the caps do not purge the old grease, you need to solve the problem:

First, hit the cover with a polyurethane hammer and try to lubricate it.

If that doesn't work, release the fixing tabs and disassemble the cross in the press.

Check that the internal lubrication channels of the part are not clogged.

Reassemble the cross and, using a torque wrench, tighten the tabs to a torque of 40 Nm. Redo the lubrication procedure.

If the cover still does not purge, the only way out is to change the crosshead.
